Day 165

“For the day of the Lord is near”
Obadiah 15

It all began with a grudge. Jacob had cheated his brother out of his birthright and Esau’s descendants, the Edomites, still held it against the Israelites. When Israel wanted to pass through their country they saw the opportunity and refused. And when Israel was later captured, they rejoiced in delight.

The Edomites lived in a rock fortress and made their homes high in the mountains. They were virtually impenetrable and took pride in that fact. But, the Lord had other plans. He is a jealous God and they struck at His people. They had committed violence to their relatives. Obadiah received a vision from the Lord to assemble the armies against Edom. The rest is history. God judged and destroyed them. He permitted their own evil to come back on them.

We may find ourselves unjustly persecuted in many ways. It may be in school, the workplace, our neighborhood. Injustice reigns everywhere. Few of us escape it. BUT, we have a Father who watches over and protects us. Even if we should suffer for a time, He will deliver us out of it. He is a true Father who will not forsake His children. Obadiah is living proof of it.

“For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish”
Psalm 1:6
