THE BREAD OF HEAVEN

Day 253

“This is the bread that came down from heaven. Our forefathers ate manna and died, but he who feeds on this bread will live forever”
John 6:58

He is the source of our life. we will live forever if we eat the bread He gives us. Feeding on Christ not only imparts life, it continuously sustains our life in Him. We are nurtured through His life in us. Those in the desert died. We will not because the new manna banishes death.

God miraculously fed manna each day to the Israelites in the desert. This bread sustained them throughout their whole journey and lasted until they possessed the promise land. As in the desert, where God rained manna on the Israelites from heaven, Jesus Christ has come to us from heaven with new manna every day. So, as we are met with new grace and mercy each day [Lamentations 3:22-23], He also imparts sustaining life to nurture us with His bread.

Consider this today; why do we rush to the latest books to feed us and show us the way? Why do we look to reports of God moving here and there and desire to be there? There seems to be a restlessness in Christians to “find” greener grass. Yet, the very living God, His Son Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit lives in us, the hope of our glory. He has given us everything we need pertaining to life and godliness. Every day is new in Him. Yesterday’s manna is dead. This day He has new manna for you.

“Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richness of fare” Isaiah 55:2

Day 236

“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life”
John 6:63

Sadly, not all who follow Jesus will stand the test of being true believers. Jesus Himself said there are some (of the followers) who do not believe. Many followed Him because of signs and wonders. Today are many who are pseudo-believers. They have never given themselves to Christ and the true gospel.

Christianity is radical. Jesus said, “. . . the Kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force” [Matthew 11:12], and Acts 14:22 states, “Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.” Does this sound strange to our ears? A careful reading of the gospel clearly reveals only those who break away from human tradition and ways, no matter what the cost to them, will possess the kingdom of God. Timothy 3:12 declares, “And indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.”

True life comes from the Spirit. Our flesh will profit nothing. Yet, how easily we slip back following our understanding, so carefully planning our earthly security, making plans, taking care for tomorrow. In the past hour 17 Christians were martyred, part of the 156,000 martyred this past year. More than in 100 AD. Christ has given us life—everything we need, but only to serve the Kingdom of God, not ourselves.

“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every encumbrance, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Hebrews 12:1-2

HE FREELY GIVES

Day 182

“He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered
Him up for us all, how will He not also with
Him freely gives us all things?”
Romans 8:32

We are subject to many passions, moods, emotions and feelings. It is our state and none escape, even in maturity. These areas of our life often are enemies of who we are Christ. We tend to judge and measure our position in Christ according to our current state. Have you ever doubted your salvation? God’s forgiveness? His love? His protection?

As powerful as salvation and grace are in our lives, it is amazing how we see our performance related to our acceptance by God. Consider the verse today and the depth of what God has done for us. First, He made a sacrifice of His own Son for you – ‘the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.’ Yes, God Himself did not spare His own Son. And on the heels of that powerful and compelling truth, another great declaration is made – God our Father and His Son will freely give us all things! Do you realize what this means?

He will give us all that is necessary to keep us from now until we are called home. His Fatherhood and powerful love will not permit human weakness, demonic activity, sin, trouble, hardship, persecution, or any other thing separate us from Him. Saints, listen; He did not shed the holy blood of Christ to lose us or for waste. He is determined to rescue, restore and perfect us until the day of Christ Jesus. You are His forever.

“Surely God is my salvation;
I will trust and not be afraid”
Isaiah 12:2

RESURRECTION LIFE

Day 116

“We shall be saved by His life”
Romans 5:10b

The ultimate victory in our lives is to learn to live our life by Another. Paul stated this clearly when he said, “I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me” [Galatians 2:20]. We will walk in complete victory if we live in total dependency upon Him.

We are saved from sin daily by adherence to and reliance on the Son of God. If we have complete trust in Him, we walk in freedom. The sad news, though, is many remain infants, never maturing into the fullness of Christ. We love our lives too much. We become entangled in the fabric of our society. Yet, Christ is ever abiding in us. He has given us the Holy Spirit to guide and direct us. We have been given everything to know and rely upon Him. He wants us to rely on Him, as John says, “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us” [1 John 4:16].

It is the Father’s intention for you to live your life fully unto Him. Christ’s incredible resurrection power raised us from the dead and made us alive. That resurrection power is working in us now so we may walk in a continuous union with the living Christ. Knowing God’s sovereignty, His complete control over every facet of our life, sets us free to do His will and have a constant joy and peace.

“Much more they which receive abundance of
grace and of the gift of righteousness
shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ”
Romans 5:17
