CHRIST REIGNS

Day 241

“And God placed all things under His feet and appointed Him to be head over everything for the church”
Ephesians 1:22

When we read the first chapter of Job we are permitted a glimpse into the workings of the divine court. Amazingly, we read that Satan comes with the angels presenting themselves to the Lord and holds a conversation with Him. We learn that Satan is subject to God and his actions are limited to what God permits.

Several millenniums later, Christ descends into the underworld to declare His victory over Satan, sin and death and then ascends triumphantly into heaven with captives in His train. Jesus triumphed over principalities and powers, having disarmed them [Ephesians 4:9-10; 2 Corinthians 2:14; Colossians 2:15]. As God the Father had mercy upon the Israelites in their captivity for sin, He now has mercy on all of mankind and through Jesus Christ His Son crushes fallen man’s enemy and makes the way for him to be reconciled.

Christ has set us free. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of God. We have been rescued, delivered, and are now preserved by the finished work of Jesus Christ. We need to declare and walk in this truth. Tradition and unbalance give an undo place to Satan by either building up his presence or downplaying his existence. We are triumphant in Christ Jesus and through Him have been given the power to declare this victory.

“And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your

GOD AS A WARRIOR

Day 230

“I will not drive them out before you in a single year, that the land may not become desolate, and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. I will drive them out before you little by little, until you become fruitful and take possession of the land”
Exodus 23:29-30

Our Father is a warrior who drives out our enemies. In taking His people to the new land, He went before them driving the enemies out of their hiding places and delivering them into their hands for defeat. He gave them the strength to overcome these enemies and possess the new land.

When we come to Christ there may be enemies in our soul. We are delivered from many when we become a new creation in Him, but there are others that may linger or be hidden. It is possible that we may not even know or be aware of these enemies. Yet, as the Lord drove them out for His people thousands of years ago, He will drive them out of us.

Although we desire that all troublesome areas of our life be put away and done with, our Father knows in His wisdom when to reveal the enemy. He also knows the time for driving it out of our lives. He also knows, as our good Father, to prepare, train and mature us so that when the enemy is removed we will be filled with His righteousness. In this way, we attain to the fullness of Christ.

THE THRONE

Day 127

“Behold, a throne”
Revelation 4:2

Our affairs rest in the hands of God. Not men, employers, government, or circumstances. God is sovereign and is in complete control. There is not one thing that happens in your life that is not permitted by God. You are His child and you belong to Him. If tribulation, trials, and travail enter your life, it is there by His permission. There is a purpose for everything in the life of a child of God.

A large segment of the Church today is suffering persecution throughout the world. From burning churches to the ground, severe beatings of brethren, imprisonment and torture, to the bold murdering of native pastors and missionaries, there are more martyrs today than in the early church. Much of the western world is insulated from these realities. But the realty is a suffering and persecuted church.

In the midst of personal and church fiery trials there stands a Throne for all to see. “God reigns; let the peoples tremble! He sits above the cherubim; let the earth be moved” [Psalm 99:1]. The Throne is the center of the universe. Almighty God rules from here. Nothing is excluded from His rule. He sits in the midst of the Holy of Holies ruling His kingdom. Look to the Throne for our God will prevail in all things and He is with us to the end.

OVERCOMER

Day 125

“I have overcome the world”
John 16:33

Jesus told us that we will have tribulation, but we were to rejoice because He had overcome the world. We, as the church, are to be a light in the world and if we are faithful to our call that light will be hated by darkness. This is the reason Paul writes in Timothy that the godly will be persecuted [2 Timothy 3:12]. What is clear and a fact is that tribulation follows the testimony of truth. This tribulation is present and ranges from pressure to persecution and even death for some.

Why did Jesus declare that He had overcome the world and that tribulation will happen, but to be of good cheer? The fact is we are in the world and we suffer along with the world and from the world. His declaration is we are now in Him and He has overcome the world. We will overcome the world in Him and it gives us hope and joy to know this in the face of pressure and persecution. We are overcomers – conquering the world.

There is more to tribulation. It is a tool in God’s hands. We are sinful and need constant cleansing. We know He is sovereign and controls everything and tribulation can be turned to good for those who love the Lord. It becomes the very tool that brings us to maturity and the fullness of Christ.
