GENEROSITY

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

It seems we were born with a nature that loves itself. Selfishness probably describes it best. All the bible knowledge in the world doesn’t change that corner of our life that is selfish. So, where does that leave us?

Thankfully, we are not left to our own devices. God in His infinite wisdom has given us the ability to live the opposite of being selfish. in fact, He had a lot to say about what we should do. But, even though that is true, there is a slight problem. Unless we use what God has given us, we let selfishness rule.

Generosity isn’t about giving money, although that certainly can be a part of being generous. It is more about doing the opposite of our nature’s inclination to be selfish. God has given us a great way to be a generous person – our talents. It is our ability to help others, to give time and a hand. Sometimes it is to do small and thoughtful things. Sometimes it is just a simple step of spending time with others – fellowship.

I don’t know about you, but I need to be saved from myself and the best way is in serving others every day. Paul says it best, “You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God” (2 Cor 9:11).

Let’s get started by asking God every morning for a kind heart, generous spirit and an opportunity today to do something for someone else.
