HE COULD TALK TO HIM

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Oral Roberts recently died. When I was teenager in the 50′s I use to watch him and Billy Graham on television. There are few startling facts about my admission. First, I had never set foot in a Protestant church and knew nothing about other beliefs other than mine. Secondly, television was still in the black and white stage and very new. Oral Roberts and Billy Graham were forerunners in using new media.

Oh, I have one more startling piece of information; after viewing these broadcasts I, on occasions, would go out to fields surrounding our home and imitate their preaching!

I just finished reading a memorial issue on Oral Roberts and one thing stood out to me. It was the statement, “Roberts credited his parents with instilling faith in him. Hearing their early-morning prayers convinced him that he could be so close to Jesus that he could talk to Him.”

What an impact parents can make on a child. Oral Roberts touched millions of people and then established a college to train thousands of others in the way of the Lord. What a testimony, and all because his parents taught him by example. “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it” (Proverbs 22:6).
